Yakima Chief Hops: Installation of push-back pallet racking

AGIR Installation carried out the assembly of a push-back racking system for a Yakima Chief Hops project in the Montreal area.

The installation includes blue metal frames, orange beams, and grey rail-and-cart assemblies spread across two elevated levels. Yellow guards are also present at the base of several uprights.

The layout makes use of the available height and depth, while maintaining access aisles to the storage locations. The structures are integrated within a room fitted with insulated panels, columns, and overhead refrigeration equipment.

The challenge

Integrating a push-back system into a space with limited clearances

The assembly had to account for the building's layout, including columns positioned between the structures, overhead equipment, and the space needed for traffic. Installing the rails and carts was a particular challenge. Their positioning had to match the geometry required by the system to allow the carts to move within each location. Installing the upper levels also required good organization of access. Components and assembly equipment had to be distributed to allow work to progress across the different rows.

The solution

Mobile-cart racking to make use of depth

AGIR Installation carried out the assembly of the frames and beams, then installed the rail and cart assemblies that make up the push-back levels. The progressive assembly of the rows allowed the structures to be integrated around the building's existing elements. Aerial work platforms were used to access the upper parts during the work. The push-back configuration allows several pallets to be grouped in depth, with handling from the aisle. When loading, pallets already in place are pushed back on the carts; when removing a pallet, the remaining ones move forward by gravity. The resulting installation combines compact storage, organized access, and use of the available height. This project illustrates AGIR Installation's expertise in assembling racking with mobile components.
